Every parcel of Torrens Title land in New South Wales comes with a Certificate of Title. When you purchase a piece of land, this certificate is updated to verify you as its owner and caretaker.
NSW Land Registry Services (NSW LRS) maintains the largest centralised land title registry in Australia. It issues Certificates of Title for each new land parcel in the state while processing, approving and recording hundreds of thousands of transactions on existing properties every year. As well as the purchase and sale of property, this covers mortgages, leases and inherited land, just to name a few.
Note: While the majority of land in NSW is held under Torrens Title, a small number of land parcels are still maintained under the Old System. Find out how this system differs.
