In consultation with Surveyors, a Digital Plan CAD Translator is now ready to be piloted, delivering a new method to create digital plan files.
This new tool allows a CAD file (.dwg) to be uploaded and translated into a LandXML file from Digital Plan CAD Layers (DP), with the aim of increasing usage of the data and reducing requisitions.
The Translator recognises a set of predetermined layers to be set within a CAD file. These standard layers were co-designed with the profession to ensure they are fit for purpose. The layers assist in the translation process by organising captured data and accurately converting it into digital data.
NSW LRS are now requesting industry participation to test the effectiveness of CAD layers. This is part of a ‘beta release’ which ensures the quality of the Translator.
After a successful testing period, the Digital Plan CAD Translator tool will form part of the next release of NSW LRS Connect, coming in late 2022.
Here's how you can help shape digital plans
- Manipulate a CAD file (.dwg) of your choice as per the NSW standard layering requirements, including layer names and text heights
- Please send this file to DigitalPlans@nswlrs.com.au. Once the file is received, NSW LRS will run the translation and provide feedback on how the file translated.
- Provide feedback on the practical application of the layers and any other comments you may have
The Digital Plan CAD Layers (DP) can be found
here, along with further information on the process and functionality of the Digital Plan CAD Translator.
The NSW LRS team are looking forward to receiving your file and hearing your feedback.
NSW LRS Connect is currently live for Registered Surveyors to create Plan Workspaces and utilise Digital Forms. Please sign up
here. NSW LRS will deliver more customers access to the Online Portal in late 2022, following ongoing consultation.
